Texas encourages families to explore the outdoors with its massive Free Fishing Day every summer across the state's sprawling lakes and coastlines.
2026 TX Free Fishing Day
| Date | Type | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| June 6, 2026 | Fresh & Saltwater | Usually the first Saturday in June! |
Important Rules
During Free Fishing Day, the requirement for a regular recreational fishing license (and any freshwater/saltwater endorsements) is waived statewide for both residents and non-residents. Note: A Red Drum Tag is still required if you intend to harvest an oversized Red Drum.
Year-Round Free State Parks
Unlike most states that only offer a single weekend, Texas has an incredible program: Fishing is FREE year-round inside all Texas State Parks! If you pay the entry fee to a state park and fish from the bank or a pier extending from park property, you do not need a license.
